“Purity Rings” from Silver Ring Thing (SRT)

The virginity pledge movement is a Trojan horse for abstinence-only sex-ed and generally pushing Christianity in schools.  Among the many fucked-up things about it are the weird behavioral outcomes for teenagers who get pressured into taking the pledge.

Compared to their peers, pledgers are either no more likely, or not much more likely, to delay having PIV intercourse.  But they are significantly more likely to have unprotected oral and anal sex.

What the fuck?

I mean, this makes nonsense of the idea that campaigns like SRT (which has gotten over $1 million in US taxpayer’s money) are actually promoting public health.  But forget that.  I’m wondering about the theology.  What version of sexual morality is this?

I mean, last time I looked, Mary’s question to the angel in Luke 1:34 didn’t read “How will this be?  For I am a virgin, though I’m always down for some anal double-fisting and deep-throat action, or the girl-on-girl spanking-and-jello-wrestling scene.”
