That tie looks more like he’s being left to his fate. Except all the occult weirdness going on suggests that maybe he’s being sacrificed by the old lady, not left as dinner for the ghastly ghoul of Graggle grove.

When I think “virgin sacrifice”, the image that comes to mind is something like this. Well, not the crocodile and the viking dude. But the naked or scantily clad maiden lying on the stone altar, chained down and/or entranced. And the skeezy priestly dude with a big knife poised to strike. Check, check, check.
Thing is, although I feel like I’ve seen versions of this image many times, they’re actually quite hard to find. This script is so well-worn and overused that it almost never gets played straight anymore. A Google image search for “virgin sacrifice” and the obvious cognates turns up very little that fits the bill.
I remember going to see a stage production of Peter Pan when I was a kid. They had even set up the whole wire thing so that Peter and the kids could fly, which was very impressive for a small theatre group. But what I remember most was Wendy (and Tiger Lily?) being tied up. Oooooo! I would have traded places in a second.
Here, some very classic pirate peril, with a rather more mature Wendy.

Not quite a librarian—that would be Giles—but she did pretty much live in the library. And one time, at band camp, she magically absorbed all the text from every book on the shelves.
Willow “everyone’s getting spanked but me” Rosenberg is a sub, but her evil alter ego is definitely a domme. She even gets in a little bondage with her victims, though in Joss Whedon’s stories, who doesn’t?
And she’s Allyson Hannigan. So there’s that.
But there’s more. Willow was one of the first adamantly Jewish characters on television, who didn’t suddenly become a Christian for the Christmas special. And she and Tara were the first lesbian couple on television, bar none. Both of them were portrayed as being shy and insecure and gradually becoming self-confident….it was pretty inspiring stuff.
But again we have the issue where superheroes have regular powers, but superheroines have disability powers: in Willow’s case, her power was treated as an addiction that made her evil. Some folks have argued that this is evidence of Joss Whedon’s shocking sexism, which I think is kind of silly: I think Angel’s and Mal’s (male) power is treated with similar ambivalence, and Topher’s “power” is basically a tragedy on par with Victor Frankenstein.
Still, the pattern is important. I note, for instance, that most female fetish models are asked to bottom at least on some occasions, while most male fetish models only top. [Insert lots of boring theory].
The point is: Willow Rosenberg: hot.
So, urine. Not “golden showers” or “water sports” or similar names. Urine.
But first…I want to give a shout-out to two tumblogs that have endless amounts of odd and antique erotica. This image, clearly an early example of photoshopping, is from Schund und Schmutz. Marquise MSP is also excellent.
This is too funny…..
OK, this is only sort of a theme. With the exception of the Gorgons and basilisks, I love seeing faces and facial expressions, an arena that porn is usually very short on. We’ve already looked at anxiety and crying; here is a hodgepodge of glee, humiliation, serene obedience, inner-turmoil-obedience, and so forth.
(Quick: We all know Medusa. Who can name the other two Gorgons without checking Wikipedia?)
That’s one sassy Medusa!

…and here’s Circe from an 1871 German illustration. Looking pretty badass. And her two assistants just look amused. They know what’s about to go down.
Circe is probably the earliest character in the West that begins to resemble a dominatrix. A powerful sorceress, she made men into her pets—earning her a lasting role in bestialization iconography. However, she wasn’t a popular character in classical art. Here she is on an altarpiece from Sicily, making a pony-boy.
