The September 1956 cover of Man’s Life. All the covers were more or less in this vein, but Weasels Ripped My Flesh would get immortalized by Frank Zappa.
if you are not familiar with MAN’S LIFE here is a good introduction

Irish Farmer Alan Graham has intervened to stop Rihanna getting naked in his field, where she was shooting a new video:
“From my point of view, it was my land, I have an ethos and I felt it was inappropriate. I was unhappy with her state of undress. I wish no ill will against Rihanna and her friends. Perhaps they could acquaint themselves with a greater God.”
News at AV Club.
OK, I like that she’s put a record (vinyl!) on, maybe to drown out the yelping. But what I especially like is that the sub’s gender is ambiguous. To me, it’s a guy, for sure. But I would imagine that many of you saw a girl’s ass. No way to be sure.

Janet Jackson’s “wardrobe malfunction.”
As a live musical performance, the SB XXXVIII halftime show was kind of boring. But as political theatre, OMG. MTV permanently banned from the Superbowl! Half a million complaints to the FCC! Two lawsuits! A half-million dollar fine! Massive chilling effect on soap operas and talk radio! Surge in the popularity of nipple shields! Americans look like idiots!
Sigh.
Perhaps the most depressing thing was that Jackson and Timberlake couldn’t come out and say “Yeah, we thought popping out a boob during a song about getting naked would be fun and sexy, and we figured you people could handle it.” No, they had to explain it as an accident.
There it is: the most dangerous breast in America.
Again, I’m dancing around the actual “librarian” issue here, and just going for the geek-sexy archetype. I think a major tip-of-the-hat goes to Thomas Dolby’s 1982 song (and video) Blinded Me With Science. Around minute 3, in the bridge, is the immortal line “Good heavens Miss Sakamoto, you’re beautiful!”, delivered by actual mad scientist Magnus Pyke. Miss Sakamoto does the obligatory and now iconic glasses-removal hair-shake. And then is seen bending over Dolby in a medical-fetish-POV shot. And then turns into a violin. So I think this qualifies.
Damn, that’s Elvis.
Also, I have a new blog post up here, for folks who follow the blog.

I’m going to go back through some of the themes that I had requests for, starting with Murre’s request…boy furniture.
I like this picture because it seems like a realistic pose for him to hold for awhile (a piano piece worth, anyway.) Not sure it would be so comfortable for her, though. And shouldn’t he be kneeling a little closer to the piano?

Reaffirming my stated belief that Pianists and female musicians are among the sexiest beings on the planet.
Many loved before us
I know that we are not new
In city and in forest
They’ve smiled like me and you…

This is Patti’s theme for the most beautiful pornographic movie ever made, Greenaway’s The Pillow Book.

Virgin Killer (album cover), Scorpions, 1976
The model above, Jacqueline, was ten years old when this picture was taken. With the cracked-glass fig-leaf addition, the Scorpions used it for the cover of their fourth album. It generated some controversy at the time, but Western culture quickly found other things to discuss than the cover art of an album a German rock band. For about thirty years.
And then in 2008, the IWF in Britain decided that this was maybe child porn—they were never quite certain—and so they merrily shut off access to Wikipedia editing for most of the UK. This disastrous state of affairs only lasted for four days or so, while Wikipedia’s diplomats calmly pointed out that Virgin Killer was still widely available in British music stores, and had never been legally challenged in three decades.
But this was more than enough time for hundreds of people to whine that Wikipedia should censor the image anyway, since “they” were causing such massive problems. ”They” being, of course, anyone who disagreed with the IWF.
